Objects and photographs from Nordmøre’s history
Our collections range from the everyday to celebration and luxury—from coastal fisheries to horse-drawn ploughs and traditional ale bowls from the grain-growing communities at the inner reaches of Nordmøre’s fjords. The collections reflect the local history of the places they were gathered from, as well as more specialised themes such as peat harvesting and British salmon anglers.
We also hold an extensive photographic collection spanning both older and more recent times. Village photographers, regional newspapers, German soldiers during the Second World War, and many others are represented in the museum’s photo collection from across the region.
Much of our object and photographic collection has been digitised and made available through DigitaltMuseum, where you can search the collections by name or subject.
We also offer a wide range of shorter and longer articles on local history topics from Nordmøre—from archaeology to clipfish production. These can be found alongside the rest of the collections on DigitaltMuseum.
Nordmøre Museum holds extensive archival material, ranging from large clipfish companies and factories to local clubs and associations. Many of these archives can be explored through Arkivportalen.
